AC Milan winger Rafael Leao said that he wants to become “more selfish in front of goal” in order to achieve more success with both his club and the Portuguese national team.
In a press conference with the Portugal team, Leao shared that he wants to improve his individual performance. He explained,
“I have to be more selfish in front of goal. When I was younger, I watched players like Ronaldinho and Robinho, who didn’t always focus on scoring, but I’ve always wanted to dribble past defenders.”
Leao, who is 25, also talked about how important statistics are in today’s football. He said,
“Sometimes, you can have a great game, but if you don’t score or get an assist, people will say your performance wasn’t good enough.”
He added that he is trying to be “more decisive” in games to help his team more.
Rafael Leao is part of the Portugal squad for their upcoming Nations League matches. The first match is against Poland on Friday, and the second is against Croatia on Monday. Portugal currently leads Group A1 and only needs one point from the Poland match to secure a place in the quarterfinals. Poland will be without their star player, Robert Lewandowski, due to injury.
