Mohamed Salah, the star forward for Liverpool, is drawing attention from top clubs in Europe as his future at the club remains uncertain.
The 32-year-old’s contract with Liverpool ends at the end of this season, and he will be able to talk to other teams in January about a pre-contract agreement.
Salah is one of three key Liverpool players whose contracts run out next summer, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk. Liverpool has kept talks about Salah’s contract private, but reports from Sky Germany say that the club and Salah are still far apart on agreeing to new terms.
This season, Salah has been in excellent form, scoring 10 goals and assisting 10 more in all competitions. But as he turns 33 next summer, there are concerns about how long a big new contract might last.
On Sunday, Salah posted a cryptic message on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.” This has led to more speculation about his future.
Arne Slot, a football manager, also commented on Salah’s future, saying he believes Salah can keep playing at a high level for many more years. Slot mentioned that players like Cristiano Ronaldo (who is 39) and Lionel Messi (who is 37) have shown it’s possible to stay at the top even as they get older. Slot added that Salah is still in great form and showing no signs of slowing down.
Salah has also been a target for clubs in the Saudi Pro League, with Liverpool rejecting a bid over £100 million from Al-Ittihad in 2023. Interest from the Middle East is still strong, but Salah also has options with top European clubs.
Since joining Liverpool from Roma, Salah has scored 221 goals in 336 games. He is one of the club’s all-time top scorers, and with three Premier League Golden Boots and two PFA Player of the Year awards, he has become a legend at Anfield.
